What is Consumer Court? Consumer Court Types and Consumer Court Fees

Consumer Court has a simple option to get to the civil court. It is difficult to enter a case in the civil court and consumer court takes a long time in the hearing but the process of consumer court to file a case online is easy and it takes less time in hearing and provide appropriate judgment to the consumer.

The consumer court is designed to provide fast resolution to consumer problem. If someone bought goods such as TVs, refrigerator, washing machine or speed posts, or mobiles etc. from any manufacturing company or from an online store and they have charged extra from MRP rates, and send defective or damaged product, or bad quality product then the consumer has their own right to raise their voice against the company at consumer court and you are eligible to file consumer complaint against the company at consumer court.

There are three types of consumer courts:

  • National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC)
  • State Consumer Redressal Commission (SCRC)
  • District Consumer Forum

If a consumer wants to file a case in consumer court then consumer need to pay a fee to consumer court through demand draft.

The fees of District consumer court are given as below:

  • Up to 1 lakh – Rs.100/- through Demand draft in favour of district consumer court
  • Between 1 lakh to 5 Lakh – Rs.200/- DD
  • Between 5 lakh to 10 Lakh – Rs.400/- DD
  • Above 5 Lakh – Rs.500/- DD

State Consumer Forum

  • Between 20 lakh to 50 Lakh – Rs.2000/- DD
  • Above 50 Lakh and below 1 Crore – Rs.4000/- DD

National Consumer Court

  • Above 1 Crore – Rs.5000/- DD
